Holiday Social with Alpha Tau

Honoring our DKG Heritage: Alpha Tau Chapter was organized on April 6, 1962 in Tacoma by Gladys Lees and Edna Morrison of Alpha Chapter. The first chapter president was Marie Brittin. Alpha Tau has had many members who have served on state and international levels, one of whom was Elsa Nordin who served as International Second Vice-president. Over the years some outstanding programs and projects have included: the founder of Literacy House in India Wealthy Fisher and college exchange student speakers from Mexico  Japan, and Norway who discussed the status of women in their countries; projects included: collection of monetary gifts for scholarships and donated food, clothes and gift items to battered women shelters, FISH and Western State Hospital.

On Saturday, December 1, I enjoyed visiting with sixteen members of Alpha Tau who all donned their Christmas attire and gathered together at the lovely home of Joan Schilling. I must say, the beautiful statuesque Christmas tree and bright holiday decorations made Joan's home a festive venue for the chapter's Holiday Soup Social. Special thanks to Alpha Tau's computer tech Janet Blanchard and Chapter President Patty Swanson for using FaceTime to allow me to "virtually" connect with members from the west side of the state. Alpha Tau members realized the value of learning to use technology and the ease to provide a connection to those who are physically unable to attend their meetings or to future collegiate members. We all now look forward to spending the holidays with family and friends. Merry Christmas one and all!
